Gettysburg

The first weekend in April Matt, Carter, and I met up with my brother Dan and his wife Jen and baby in womb in Gettysburg. Dan and Jen ventured away from home in Sandy, UT where they have a family consisting of Sydney (soon to be 3) and chickens, yes that is right, in the middle of their suburban neighborhood my brother has a coupe full of chickens it is their pet of choice. Anyway, they decided to visit DC, Williamsburg, and Gettysburg so we thought we would meet up with them since Gettysburg is only 3 hours away from us. It was so great to see them and very cool to see such a historic site. But for those thinking of going sometime in the future I have a few recommendations. You NEED to go prepared. Do research and make sure you have a good understanding of what the battle was all about, the timeline, and events. We had a few people tell us to watch the movie Gettysburg before going, which Dan and Jen did and they said it helped quite a bit. I feel like I would have gotten so much more out of it if I would have been prepared. But that all aside, we still had a great time and found it very interesting and insightful. It is crazy to imagine that kind of fighting and death. We are very much indebted to those early soldiers and their families for such sacrifices that helped shape our great country.

Dan ready for battle.

The crazy thing about the battle field in the background here is that it was covered with big boulders scattered all over and it looked like the battle had been there just yesterday and had blown these rocks to smitherins.

Carter thought Daddy's sunglasses were in the words of Uncle Timmy "totally sick." To which Matt and I respond "Yes, Timmy they are disgusting."

Thanks Dan and Jen for a fun and memorable day.

Carter now a days never ceases to amaze Matt and I with the things he can now do. Lately one of those things is to go into the bathroom and turn on the bath water. Well, just the other day we got another surprise...

Party Time!!

Yesterday (Apr 11) Carter and I threw Matt a little Birthday Celebration with a few of our friends. We had a good time. We always love to get together with friends and have some good laughs. We ordered some pizzzas and I made two cheesecakes: plain and Blake Forest (chocolate with cherries and Cool Whip on top). Our friends each brought an addition which made for a great meal. The kids all ran around screaming and playing, I think they made it into EVERY room in the house, at least that is what the trail of toys and sprinkles show. It is definitely nice to have a basement where the majority liked to play. It is so fun to have a full house. I didn't get a lot of pictures, but here are a few:

First for the preparations...

The Outcome:

"Happy Birthday to You!"

Yet another thing that is wonderful about my husband, he always knows how to get people laughing. Thanks to the Childs for the awesome PJs which we received this last Christmas at our White Elephant party.

Once again sweetie, Happy Birthday and thanks for being such a great piece to our puzzle. Also, thanks to Matt's mom and my friend, Bonnie for allowing all this to happen, Oh and you too Jay, I guess you played a part too! :) (We love you very much as well!! Esp. your grandson!!)

Matty Matt's Birthday

Yesterday, April 10th, was my wonderful husband's birthday. He turned 29. In celebration I cooked one of his favorite meals for dinner, Broiled Chicken Thighs, and then surprised him with tickets to the Pirates game versus the Cubbies. PNC Park is his absolute favorite baseball park. It is a very beautiful park that looks out into the one of the rivers and the city.

Then it came time for presents. Matt's mom and dad got him a BYU blanket and basketball shorts. Matt loved them!! Hence the blurred picture because he was so excited and the video is a MUST SEE!

Carter and I also got Matt this BYU scrub hat.

I think it is safe to say that Matt is BYU obsessed! Every birthday and Christmas all he asks for is more BYU stuff.

In addition to having a love for BYU Matt also has a LOVE for his family. He can't get enough time with his mini-me Carter. It is so fun to watch those two play and wrestle. Matt puts Carter to bed every night not just to help with parenting responsiblilities but mostly because he enjoys it so much. He treasures every minute he has with Carter. Matt also is sweet and gentle with me. He makes sure everyday to tell me he's attracted to me and tries to thank me for all that I do. He encourages me to get out with the girls and never complains about staying behind with Carter. Matt works crazy hours at the hospital and it is very rare for him to complain. Matt is a very optimistic, make the best out of every situation type of person. He has the most amazing talent with people and is very strong in his beliefs. Carter and I are truly blessed to have him be our husband and father. Thanks babe for all you do and for being you!! LOVE YOU!!
