Hand Foot Mouth

Carter has just finished suffering from a case of Hand Foot Mouth and let me tell you it was FUN! AHHHH!! It all started on Friday when we went to the Science Center and he was screaming over every little thing. This was not like him at all and it was very frustrating especially in public. Then on Saturday he cried, whined, screamed, arched his back, etc all day long. I thought I was going to go crazy. He wasn't sick, he had a slight fever (never higher than 99s), but even that was questionable. I thought my boy was hitting terrible twos early. He wouldn't even let Matt look at him for most of the day much less touch him. Then on Sunday morning, I went to get him out of his crib and low and behold:

He had a rash everywhere. It was the worst on his face. This picture was still early on Sunday and it just got progressively worse throughout the day. He was covered with big oozing ulcers. Luckily I already had a wellness visit scheduled for Monday morning. Right off the bat the doctor diagnosed Carter with Hand Foot Mouth. He also said Carter's sores were so big and nasty that it was one of the worst cases he has seen. Carter had ulcers all throughout his mouth and in his throat. Poor guy didn't want to eat anything for days. He drank enough to get by. I felt horrible for him. But now we are on the mends. Yesterday was our first day back into society and it felt good. His spirits are back but we still have our moments. But here is a question for you all: Carter is still not going to Matt very well, he won't kiss him or let Matt hold him and will even run away from him. Do we just ride it out or is there something we can do? Matt is always a great dad and very kind and loving to Carter. He isn't around a ton, but enough that Carter knows his Dad. What can we do?!?

AAWWHH!!! That is terrible! Gosh, I think I would freak out. I think Carter will get over the dad thing. Maybe let Matt (when he is home) do the calming things with him like bath, reading, and giving him is binki (if I remember right he love it!!). He will get over it...and it might just be he wants Mom when he doesn't feel good :) Best of luck!

Poor Carter! I am so sorry, I am glad he is doing better. I hate when the little ones get sick. I don't know if my advice will help or scare you. Paul started doing that to Scott around 18 months, and still to this day he is like that. I don't know what to do either, he is good with Scott when I am not there. Paul screams when Scott gets home from work, he won't let Scott feed him, change him, bathe him, pretty much do anything for him, Paul only will let him if I absoultly can not do it. He is getting better, but even Scott holding him he freaks.

Sad story. One of Ryan's co-workers little girl had the same thing a couple of weeks ago. Tell Matt to play it out...Carter will love him again soon.

Oh, how sad! I'm so sorry for you guys, especially that it was SO bad! Poor kid. Glad to hear he's on the mend, though. As for poor Matt, I'm guessing Carter will come around...it probably just stems from the fact that he wasn't feeling well. My boys tend to really want me when they don't feel good, but they love Garrett when they are feeling like themselves. So, that's just my guess...but who knows! Good luck!

You should probably just give Carter up for adoption. I hear 18 months is the cut-off.

How sad! Cash had that when he was a little tike. It was so awful. I hope things are still looking up for you!

I would probably just throw Matt and Carter in a room and have them wrestle it out. Isn't that what guys do when they have a problem with each other? Seriously though I am so sorry he was sick. Devon was recently sick and I missed his smile so much after a week of not seeing it. Just try to see if they can spend some time together without you and see if that helps.
